11(E).   Some critics claim that it is unfair that so many great works of art are housed in huge metropolitan museums, since the populations served by these museums already have access to a wide variety of important artwork. But this criticism is in principle unwarranted because the limited number of masterpieces makes wider distribution of them impractical. Besides, if a masterpiece is to be fully appreciated, it must be seen alongside other works that provide a social and historical context for it.

Which one of the following, if established, could most logically serve as the principle appealed to in the argument countering the critics’ claim?

(A) In providing facilities to the public, the goal should be to ensure that as many as possible of those people who could benefit from the facilities are able to do so.

(B) In providing facilities to the public, the goal should be to ensure that the greatest possible number of people gain the greatest benefit possible from them.

(C) It is unreasonable to enforce a redistribution of social goods that involves depriving some members of society of these goods in order to supply others.

(D) For it to be reasonable to criticize an arrangement as unfair, there must be a more equitable arrangement that is practically attainable.D

(E) A work of art should be displayed in conditions resembling as closely as possible those in which the work was originally intended to be displayed

这个D项怎么理解啊?

the question is : which one of the statment, if established as a principle, best serve the above argument to counter the critics?

D) means, To reasonally criticize an arrangement as unfair, you must be able to offer a better arrangement, which is also practically available.

D) is the answer because the stimulus argues agiainst the citics by showing that : 1) impractical; 2) the masterpieces would not be fully appreciated

这个原则正好有助于攻击CRITICS不实际

Spot the question type: Principle -> Support

Conclusion: Criticism is unwarranted to prove that it is unfair to display many great works of art in huge metropolitan museums.

Support: 1. impractical to distribute limited number of them

Support: 2. If to be fully appreciated, it must be seen alongside other works that provide a social and historical context for it.

What can be inferred here is that If the author is true, then it also must be true that the great art of works are limited in number and that if the limited number of the works of art is to be fully appreciated, they must be displayed with the other works of art by which provide social and historical context for it.

let dive in to the question

A. There is no mentioned about as many as possible those people could be benefited.

B. Its not about the quantities of the benefits those works of arts could provide to people the maximum benefits.

c. Its not about who do have right to view and who does not.

D. What it said is that before being reasonable enough to criticize an arrangement as unfair, we need to have a " solution " handy.

E If a work of art be displayed, it must be resembling as closely as possible those in which the work as originally intended to be displayed ( Social and historical context for it ) - correct answer.
