Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Governments should focus their budgets more on environmental protection than on economic development.
With the world economy struggling more than it has for decades, many people argue that it is time for the environment to take a backseat while governments concentrate on improving their citizens’ financial situations and solve the problem of employment. In my opinion this is an irresponsible approach in the long-term as it is always important for governments to protect the environment.
It is impossible to separate environment protection from economic development. Economic is based on the environment. I believe this is a win to win and they are supported each other. Just as nowadays many country is to search for alternative sources of energy (e.g. wind power), which would lead us to not totally rely on the oil and reduce the content of CO2 in the air. Of course, this action would bring us the huge economic benefit and create many jobs. Similarly, if we unscrupulously cut down the tree, graze, fish and contaminate the river, it will cause the desertization and reduction of appropriate living space. These consequences have a great influence on economic. On the contrary we take action to protect the environment, rationally exploit which not only can obtain continued economic benefits, but also will encourage tourism.
There is no doubt that it is important to save the world for future generations. it is only now that people consider their own interests to improve their own conditions of living which may have serious consequences. Governments often bend to popular opinions and profits to themselves that will get them re-elected, but perhaps these opinions are short-sighted, temporary. We should see farther which could make us not regrettable; after all, environment is a precondition on which mankind relay for living. To protect the environment before it is too late. So governments need to think to the future.
No country exists in a vacuum; how one country treats the environment has a great impact on others. For example, countries that create the CO2 are contributing to global warming, not just their own atmosphere. Therefore, each government has a wider responsibility and it is essential that they work on create a clean air, water and green earth to raise conditions of living. By good environment, we can safely develop economic and gain profits.
Ultimately I disagree this statement that governments should focus their budgets more on economic development than on environmental protection. However, it is not just choosing one above the other. Instead they need to consider how the two can go hand in hand, by investing in environmentally-friendly industries and so on. On basis of good environment, they improve economic construction.
