1. Laos has a land area about the same as Great Britain but only four million in population, where many are members of hill tribes ensconced in the virtually inaccessible mountain valleys of the north. (C) that is about the same size as Great Britain's land area, but in Laos with a population of only four million people, many of them C 是错误答案,OG的解释是THEM的指代不清晰,看了别的帖子也看到了说them不能指代介词短语中的名词,对于这个解释始终不是十分明白,
One thing i've found is that the GMAT does not often allow antecedents that are buried deep in the sentence. "people" is buried under three layers of prepositions and is therefore not going to be your antecedent here.) 这个是帖子里看到的解释,是因为太多层介词包围就不能指代?
2.Since 1986, when the Department of Labor began to allow investment officers’ fees to be based on how the funds they manage perform, several corporations began paying their investment advisers a small basic fee, with a contract promising higher fees if the managers perform well. (D) fees of investment officers to be based on the performance of the funds they manage, several corporations have begun 这一题原句中they不能指代所有格,D是正确答案,可是这里they不是也指代了fees of investment officers介词短语里的名词么...
表达有点凌乱估计也有很多漏洞,求指教解答,感激不尽~

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 关于代词的ambiguity,从版版的千行里摘抄出来以供LZ参考: a. OBVIOUS pronoun ambiguity: the pronoun is PARALLEL to the WRONG noun, and is NON-parallel to the noun that is clearly intended. b. all other pronoun ambiguity.
if i see a, i eliminate. if i see b, i DON'T necessarily eliminate, unless i have literally exhausted ALL other avenues of eliminating answers.
OG is not terribly consistent in its rules about pronoun ambiguity, so, unless you're looking at an extremely clear-cut case, you should ALWAYS look at anything else you can get your hands on first.
If you see an AMBIGUOUS PRONOUN that is SPLIT AGAINST A SPECIFIC NOUN -- i.e., it is replaced by a specific noun in other answer choices -- then you can probably feel safe in eliminating it.
if the ambiguous pronoun is NOT split against a specific noun, then you may want to think twice about eliminating it.
发现帖子划线部分也没弄好...汗....重新贴一下,直接贴疑惑选项的完整版好了: (C)Laos has a land area that is about the same size as Great Britain's land area, but in Laos with a population of only four million people, many of them are members of hill tribes ensconced in the virtually inaccessible mountain valleys of the north.
