Some people like to study alone, other like to study with several people together. Which do you prefer – to study alone or to study with other people?Give specific reasons and examples to illustrate your answer. Depending on personal experience, personality type and emotional concern, different people have different ways for studying. Although it could be said that there are as many ways as there are students, it is also possible to identify two distinct methods: the way of studying alone and the way of studying together. Self-study offers flexible time schedules for a student. Some student may like to study during the day while others like to study at night, and a student who study alone would not have to meet with other’s habits. Also, he can easily gage the progress of his study. Despite the above arguments, I believe that there are more advantages to study with several people together than to study alone. First of all, people of roughly the same abilities and interests gathered in a classroom, can be a great stimulus to learning. Exciting conversations among several people can soften the common and unexpected element in learning — boredom. Similarly, friends can provide emotional support as well as suggestions to a man when he has problems in courses. In learning a foreign language, for example, a student may feel a special need to get help from a native speaker of the target language. Next, a teamwork spirit can be cultivated in a group activity. Since learning is not merely cramming knowledge into a student’s mind, therefore, a teamwork spirit is another meaningful knowledge. Students within a study group will learn the true intellectual skills of understanding people: patience, sharing, receiving and friendship. What is more, students in a study group can learn much from each other. Contact with different people will broaden a person’s mind. By attempting to compare with others, a person can also easily to learn his strengths and weakness. Learning is not simply to study alone on a single subject hour after hour. An interaction with several people will be a great stimulus to learning. As the saying has it, “no man is an island”.
