30) Teachers' salaries should be based on their students' academic performance.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
Teacher is really an admirable work.It is teachers that bring knowledge to the new generation.Though we would like to accept the fact that students' academic progress has a strong relation with teacher's hard work, we are reluctantly to link students' academic performance to the teachers' salary.
Admittedly, students' academic performance has a strong relation with the work of their teacher.A teacher works hard, students will get more benefit. For example, if a teacher puts all her heart in teaching and helps the students with all their questions, her students are more likely to get a high score in the final exam. For this reason, it seems that high salary could be a stimulus that encourages teachers to work harder. What is more, use high salary to award those hard-working teachers could be a useful method.
However, it is hard to judge the students' academic performance in a number of conditions. Though it is possible to tell the average score of a class in a primary school, other criteria should be taken into our consideration when we judge the performance of students. For example, Class A has a higher average score than Class B, but at the same time, Class A has more students who do not pass the exam.Under that condition, it seems unfair to consider the teacher of Class A has done a better work. Also, it seems equally unfair to say that the teacher of Class B has done a better work. As a result, make a judgment of students’ academic performance is difficult. What is more, it is extremely hard to tell the academic performance of PHD students in a university. Because we could never use the score of final exam as a rule, we must find other ways to judge their academic performance, such as their papers. However, since it usually takes a student more than a month or even longer to finish an essay, by no means could we based his professor's salary of a certain month on the quality of the essay. For the reasons above, base teachers' salary on students' academic performance is less likely to be a practicable method.
What is more, judging teachers' salary totally on students' academic performance seems to be unfair.A number of factors could make an influence on the students' performance. For example, if a teacher works very hard but the students put less effort on their study, it seems that these students are less likely to have a wonderful academic performance.Since teacher is never the only factor that influences the students' academic performance, we should not link students' grade with the teacher's salary directly.Besides, teachers not only pass on the knowledge to the students, but also tell the student how to be a useful person. That means teacher do make effort on developing the students' personality. When taken that into consideration, we should realize that academic performance of the students reflect only a part of the teachers’ effort. It is unfair to relate the whole salary on only a part of work efforts.
To sum up, based the teachers’ salary totally on students’ academic performance is less likely to be a wonderful method. It is less practicable. If it is really put into practice, we are going to see more bad efforts bring by this method than good ones.
