The manager conclude that the television should restore the time for wether and local news and ding this will attract more views and avoid lost in advertising revenues. To support this, he point out that the complains about the coverage of the weather and local news received from the viewers .In addition,some local businesses also canceled the contract with the station. However,this argument with an illogical reasoning full with flaws cannot withstand scrutiny and additional evidence is needed to evaluate the argument.
For the first place,the manager assumes that the complaints from the views are all about the short coverage of the weather and local news. Although this assumption is possible ,there is no evidence provided by the author to substantiate it. It is very likely they complain about something else. For example,maybe they complain about the quality of the weather and local news instead of the complaints that its time is too short.Maybe ,the author have to gather evidence about what the concrete articles of these complaints are in order to chang this situation.
In addition,even assuming that the complaints of the news are about the shortness of of the time,there is still another problems in this argument .The author take in for granted that the local businesses canceled the advertising contracts because the less time to the weather and local news . But there is no evidence to prove this cause and effect relation.It is still possible that those local businesses canceled the advertising contracts for their own reasons. For example,they may have a big lost because of the mistakes on the management recently and may have no money for further investment on advertising . It will be better if the manager can talk with those businesses' leaders and make sense of the cause of their cancelling. And this will be a substantial evidence for the argument.
Finally, even assuming what mentioned above at last all turn out to be reasonable,there is still some flaws with this recommendation. The manager predicts that after restore the time for weather and local news ,the program will turn out to attracting more views and help preserve the business revenues. But no warranted evidence is provided to illustrate it. The argument is still challenged if evidence is found to prove that the quality of the program is decreasing and people are now concentrated on another programs provided by other television which has better quality of the news. And there is no evidence that these audiences will turn to their used programs.It is not rational for the author to illustrate it without any evidence.
In sum,this argument is lacking in strong evidence and logical reasoning,both of which are very important to prove that the restore of the time for weather and local news will help the station to catch more views and have those businesses contracts
