Yes my friend, we know your problem here well. Switching careers is very tricky in MBA apps—especially switching from Law into Business. We have been successful making this sell, but it is tough. To be successful, you need to somehow find a way to show that your background in the law is actually related to business. You are using the same skills as a lawyer that you would use as a business guy. Can you prove that? If yes, you are in good shape. There are plenty of great part time programs in the northeast by the way, and NYU is among the best. Why don’t you do their part time program? It seems to suit your background perfectly.    lay up the “bond” thing in your app also, it will be helpful for ya… GOOD LUCK IN NYC DUDE! Jon Frank -- by 会员 JonFrank (2012/5/25 9:11:48)
Thanks, Jon. That's very helpful. I've talked to many of my friends w MBAs, and most of them actually recommended the full time program, esp. if for career switching. So my plan now is to apply for full time first then if I don't get accepted, I'll try the spring of 14' part time. I'll worry about $$ after I get admitted. I'll probably jump start my own business on my spare time soon so that I can partially support myself. My focus was international commercial law and international commercial arbitration. I'd say it has some contract content involved but that's about it. My previous job was serving as the business development specialist for a Chinese city here in the US though. I'm all over the place. |
