总是严重超时 T_T 110.Critical judgment of work in any given field has little value unless it comes from someone who is an expert in that field.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
I generally disagree with the claim that critical judgment of work in any given field has little value unless it comes from someone who is an expert in that field, as it denies the importance of experts in other areas and even ordinary people, who can also give effective advice for that field.
I concede that because of their well-training, professional skills and profound understanding in the specific area, specialists, especially in the natural sciences, can offer judgments of great value in the same field. For example, when a chemist claims that a new radioactive element has been found under some particular and complex conditions. To testify this assertion, other scientists may want to duplicate the experiment exactly the same way as claimed, which obviously turns out to be rather difficult to a musician or an average person.
However, as science and technology develops, importance of interdisciplinary study has been recognized and suggestion from experts from other fields has played a more and more significant role in a given area. In one respect, one field can provide advanced equipment and methodology for others. In modern astrophysics for example, computer science is applied widely to model the origin and orbiting of cosmos and celestial bodies, which is critical to give a preliminary verification for a theoretical hypothesis. On the other hand, if one is confined to the very field, he or she may have a limited scope, which can result in the neglect or misunderstanding of the truth. This usually comes true for sociology. Suppose a person is studying exclusively feminist for a historical period. He or she might not achieve much if neglecting advice from historians, political scientists, economist and psychologists, as all these areas they are engaging in can cause critical effect on feminist movement.
Meanwhile, judgment from ordinary people can't be ignored, which is mainly based on two aspects. Firstly, for those practical fields, the average person is just the one those areas serve for. Their voices and judgments can sometimes be one of the most important criteria to the work in that field. For example, the government plans to perform health care reform to enlarge the universal medical coverage. Then, it can be claimed that the reform is successful if most people feel that they can afford medical expenses due to the political policy, just as the pragmatic function of furniture can only be judged by its consumers, not by experts in that field. Secondly, not limited by inherent constraints, a layman can provide the most simple, yet feasible solution to a problem. A striking example is about the idea of first outside elevator. When the EI Cortez Hotel in California decided to build another elevator to meet the needs of customers, professionals and architects suggested making a hole from the basement to the roof and the hotel needed to be closed for a season. A cleaner passed by and advices to build the elevator outside. This astonishing idea was finally adopted and put into practice, which produced the first outdoor elevator in the world and promoted the development of architecture.
In sum, when emphasizing the significance of judgments from experts on the same field, we should also take into account those advice from professionals in other areas. Moreover, even the suggestions from ordinary people or laymen can form as the evaluation criterion and a source of creative inspiration. Instead of solely relying on connoisseurs, work in any field will progress much if its workers can adopt and censor judgments from every corner.
a) 天体物理学(astrophysics)中,计算机建模可以模拟宇宙(cosmos)和天体(celestial bodies),检验理论物理假说 b) 社会科学领域,女权研究(feminist studies),则需要政治学、历史学、经济学、心理学等多领域的帮助,from an intersectional, multicultural perspective. 3. 普通大众的意见同样很重要 a) 政治领域,民众的判断是影响决策的主要因素之一 b) 普通人由于不受专业限制,想法可能更具有简单方便。如:柯特大饭店(El Cortez Hotel, cleaner)
有个困惑的一点,在第三段写交叉学科时,需要再深入写学科是如何交叉的吗?还是说现在这样就可以了?求大牛指教! |
