I have written a sop and have my professor in us read the context.
I wrote that I pick one of the paper of the targeted professor to talk about and say that it is what I hope to do but my professor's response is that " this is too specific in my opinion. You can talk about several projects or stream of research to talk about rather that try to pick one research and say you like it. What's stream of research? For example, if my research interest is capital markets and fin accounting, what stream of research I can talk about?

I think you do not need to be very specific. For example, you can mention you are interested in accounting conservatism, debt contracting issues, corporate financial reporting decisions, etc if you apply for Chicago Booth or you can mention international accounting, executive compensation, behavioral finance, etc, if you apply for Stanford, earnings management if you apply for Berkeley.You may also mention that your interests are not confined in these areas. The bottom line is that you understand what is going on and you have sufficient background.
