I just graduated from Ivey this year, and I can share my personal opinion. If you plan to get into consulting or pursue career in general management, you should consider Ivey. Although Ivey is becoming strict for Chinese students, the reason is just as Jamesyx said, case method need good analysis and presentation skills, which are also important for consultant or GM. The faculty in Ivey is very good, or at least, 80% of them are best class. But in recent year, some tenure got retired, as Michael Leeds, (guru of supply chain) and some of them went to other school, as Allen Morrison (strategy management). I hope that Ivey could attract more professors, because case method is not easy to teach. Although, I still believe that case method is the most appropriate way to learn management skills. Every year, someone get one offer from Ivey or Rotman (not both), and very likely, they feel regretful for not having offer from another. Rotman is good in finance, so if you want find a job on Bay street, go Rotman. And if you like city style, go Rotman. UBC is the only choice if you want to have enjoyable life in Vancouver. I lived there for two years, and once I moved to London (ontario), I feel bored. Good campus, have some good professor (some of Ivey prof come from UBC and they are very good). And you might feel easy to find a job in BC if you choose UBC. I hope that my information is helpful, and you can contact me by foresthill2003(A) hotmail.com |
