“The value of any nation should be measured more by its scientific and artistic achievements than by its business successes.”
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.
The issue of whether the value of any nation should be measured more by its scientific and artistic achievement or by its business success is complex and controversial. The final judgment should be weighed in many aspects. However, as far as I am concerned, I agree with the author’s assertion that the scientific and artistic achievements are more important than business success in determining the nation’s value. My agreement and contention involve fundamental and deep analysis as discussed below.
First of all, the scientific achievement can benefit all the human beings. The great scientific discoveries improve our acknowledgement toward the world. For instance, the Newton’s Law changes our minds about the movement of the objects. It helps us to understand the whole world more clearly. In addition, the scientific invention improves our lives. For example, the inventions of the electricity, computer and automobile etc improve our life completely. It increases significantly our life quality.
Secondly, the artistic achievement which is the treasure of the human beings improves the spirit world of humans. Good artistic achievement helps us not only know more about the historical achievement of our ancestors but also maintain a good mood. Just imagine that when you see some magnifique paintings in the caves, you can know more in details about historical information about our ancestors, what’s more, seeing the beautiful painting in the caves, you will have a happy temper.
However, we cannot conclude that the business success is meaningless to the value of nations. On one hand, some businesses give us more fantastic alternations in our leisure time. For instance, the APPLE and Disneyland are very successful and give us good more choices to spend our spare time. On the other hand, the success of business means a lot of tax to the government, and it can in turn promote the scientific and artistic achievement by implementing more programs to improve the education quality and the scientific equipment and give financial aid to the some poor artists.
In sum, the issue of whether the value of any nation should be measured more by its scientific and artistic achievement or by its business success is a sophisticated one. Only by excluding the subjective judgment and involving the overall consideration, we can safely reach the conclusion that while I agree with the scientific and artistic achievements are more important than business success in determining the nation’s value, we cannot overlook the importance of the business success to the value of nation. 413字 |
