First thank you guys for putting effort together and help out each other!
Well, I would love to have your opinions on my targeting schools…

26 Chinese female

GPA: 2.8 from a mediocre undergrad U.S. university (had a major health issue since sophomore year, however, got 6 As on my upper level accounting class in my last year)

GMAT: 740

Work Exp: 7 years, got my first job as a branch manager for 2 years in a top educational consulting company in China when I was 19, then moved over to the US for undergrad. While in school, I worked part time as project assistant for a year, then transferred to operation dept worked for 2 years as an accountant, after graduate, I stayed in a local CPA firm for a year, now working in big4 in the U.S. for almost a year.I’m also co-founders of two start-up trading firms in China.

Extra curriculums & community service:Several prizes on photo shooting and public speech. Volunteering at a local food center for a year as their accountant, run marathon for charities twice after recovery from my medical issues, volunteered at the same org. for over 3 years as a guest speaker mainly focusing on global impact in local community.

I was just wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on my targeting schools, like what would be my safe zone (prefer general management, and big cities), and stretches?

If I would have to wait for another year, and try some of these stretches you may suggest, would you recommend me to retake GMAT, and have an even higher score? Or maybe transfer to consulting dept? Or any other things you may suggest me to boost my chance in applying those stretches.

Thank you very much for the help! I truly appreciate it!

H

PS, Really hoping I can type Chinese, but it doesn't have that function here at work...Sorry being kinda annoying...

Looks like you got a pretty solid working experience and community service/extra-curriculums.  Your GMAT is good enough, you probably don't need to take it again, because there's no guarantee that you'd earn a higher score next time.
The only problem appears to me is your GPA.  It shows that the overall grade you earned is below B (assume the 4.0 scale)  If you graduated from a top tier school, you definitely need to justify what affected your performance (e.g.health issue).  If you graduated from a second or third tier school, you still need to justify that, and be prepared that the adcom would probably gonna ask you about it.  But past is past, you can't really do much to cover it up.  If your grades show a ascending trend over your undergrad period, that would help a little bit because it demonstrats your potential to improve/grow.

I think you still have a good chance to get into top schools.  Other factors such as assay and recommendation could play big parts in your application.  Working for another year may help you to gain more experience and thus you have more stories to tell, so it's up to you.
