i don no. I have one Math Analysis prof. on Advanced Calculus one insurance professor as my organization advisor, he knows my leadership, graduated from wharton. He suggested me to apply for top 20 master.
But Nothing else and I really want to get into phd later. 2 actuarial exams passed. Took 3rd in Nov. Results r not out yet. Taking 4th one in Feb, 2011.
If you are interested in doing a PhD afterwards, then the MathFin program at Courant is the wrong route. It's a professional degree taught mostly by practitioners. The coursework is not geared towards preparing you for PhD study. I think you will be better off getting a master's degree in economics/statistics.
But for Econ: people always go for econ phd in us, few schools provide master degree, Econ Master is just for these unsuccessful students failed their preliminary exams from most US points of view.
Statistics: I am not that into Stats, just personally. After prob. math statistics and regression, as an actuary, i sometimes just cann get the point of doing that. I m a bus school student. will that help me with applying for stats master? I doubt that they would prefer someone with Math degree..... And really, I don need to do MHR, Marketing, Bus law which totally ruin my GPA with a Math degree.
If i go to work, the entry level job would frustrate me with low salary base in some small firms and i really don see that a Chinese would easily stand out and get promotions in a short period of times like 2-3 yrs.
Thats my concern. Thank you, really, I appreciate your advice. Is there other program would fit me better other than Stats?
The program at Courant will certainly help you get a quant job. However, I guess one will sitll have to climb the corporate ladder from there by himself. I would be very happy to hear any insider information about the life of a Chinese quant on Wall Street.
