MBAs Confront a Savage Job Market

The MBA Class of 2009 was hit harder than expected by the recession. At some top schools, 1 in 5 are jobless 3 months after graduation

Class of 2009 and [don't forget] 2010 are hit really hard.  Class of 2011 should improve.  Economy should stabilize by 2010/2011 so class of 2012 should get back to 2008 levels.  In my opinion, class of 2012 grads from top 15 schools should be fine (at least 85-90% will have jobs at graduation)... and the earnings will be back to 2008 levels (some outdated sources are still using class of 2008 numbers)... Those applying right now (class of 2012) can expect these numbers.

It will take a while to get back to the sweet class of 2004-2007 levels.

In the last recession, worst job placement was observed in 2002, 2003, and 2004. The job market is always laggard. no exception this time.

it does not matter how good your background is, what matters most is in which year you graduate.

Futureminds  That's why I said class of 2012 will be like class of 2008.  Class of 2008 were dealing with mostly 2007 and months leading up to summer of 2008 (mild recession).  Class of 2009 and 2010 were dealing with the severe recession.  I specifically said it won't get back to the growth/boom years of 2004-2007.

I would not be applying to full time programs right now if I don't believe 2012 will be better than 2009/2010.
