Need Help on Visa

My wife will work in New York with Media Visa (I Visa), and I will also get media visa if I follow her.  I know that my wife can’t study with media visa, but I get the info that I can study using this media visa without applying student visa (F1 visa) again.

But I am not sure about that since someone else tell me the opposite situation: Even as the spouse, I can’t study; If it is true, what can I do after I get the offer from school: can I convert media visa into student visa in US directly? Or can I return China and apply student visa over again?

I wrote email to US Department of State but got no feedback.

Is there any NIU REN could help me?
