问一个关于在essay里引用别人的观点的问题

比较老白的问题。

想引用经济学家杂志里一篇文章的观点，对支持我的career goal的动机有非常重要的作用。问大家一下怎么处理比较好。

1）是简单处理不注明具体出处呢，比如：I read an article in The Economist，blah blah... 观点云云呢；
2）还是做一个footnote,写明具体出处比较专业一点？如果写footnote的话，附注的字数算在限制字数里面么？

如果原话引用，最好注明，美国很忌讳这个的

Keep the essence, change the wording.

As long as you don't use the original wording, I don't think you need to identify the source. It is just an appliation essay, not a journal paper, so no need to keep a list of Reference.
