There is a general discussion these days over the issue of building (the interplays between human beings and their buildings. It is true that buildings must be constructed by people before they can have influences on peoples by their shapes, functions, and archetiture. Whether buildings will "shape" people or not is largely dependent on what is the meaning of "shape" and what kind of human characteristics is talked about). on the one hand, some people argue that building (can) changed people (minds/idea/personality etc) after constructed, (;) on the other hand, other people assert that people's change do not depend on building they work or live but themselves. In the last analysis, I shall present the arguments favoring the former statements.
In the first place, the salient reason that can be displayed to support my view point is that the communication ways of people working in build alerted gradually. Along with the development of modern society, architecture employed lots of advanced technologies, which undoubtedly bring people a lot of benefits, but which give rise to some problems. My experience is a case in point. About ten years ago, before our office was installed network, all clerks always discuss problem facing us together within a friendly environment. The harmonious atmosphere, however, was broken when all clerks began to use instant message throughout network instead of face-to-face. Even though the distance between two clerks just was 2 meters, each of them would rather communicated by computer.
in the second place, anther reasons is that building changed people's life style, compared with the past, it must be admitted that building now have lots of recreational facilities, such as internet cafe, gym, and so on. So people used to stay at home started to enjoy convenience brought by building. At same time, they could make many friends and accept lots of new things by communicating each other or studying thought mode of others. In this way, people would get used to the new life gradually.
Admittedly, there existed the possibility of the fact that some people influenced by building. Mr.Chen, a retired worker with 70 years old, is an example. He prefer run on the playground to utilize the facilities. Because the habit of running had kept for a long time, it hardly changed in a short time. (Neverthe less, this is liekly caused by a physical restriction rather than a mind-setting.)
{Another thing you can talk about is that buildings and human make influence human minds in a more interactive ways. For example, an empty stadium vs a stadium filled with ten thousand soccer funs; the later is definitely alter people's mood. You do n't have to write everthing, but must go depth . Get familar to words describe human feeling and minds if you have times. "psychological effect, passion, anxiety, desire, and envy is better than just "human feeling" in general.}
from what had been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that the building exert an strong impact on shaping people. Although I mentioned a couple of example, they are too weaken to opposite the view that we shape the building afterwards the building shape us. |
