We should emphasize on the result or the specific task at hand? In this argument, the author asserts that the key to success is to focus on the specific task at hand rather than only think about the results. However, some people may hold opposing views. It is no wonder that the seemingly simple and straight question could arouse such fierce debate through society, since this question is so complex and contentious that there is, actually, no universal answer to it. As far as I am concerned, whether one choice takes precedence over the other would quite depend on specific situations and careful case-by-case analysis. My positions are based on a deep and fundamental analysis as discussed below.
On the one hand, I am quite in favor of the author’s idea that we shouldn’t emphasize the end product without consideration to the specific job. The famous saying tells us that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It is true that considering only about the consequence will lead to the neglect of the seemingly trivial job at hand, which maybe the foundation to the final productivity. As a result, the more we are anxious to achieve outcomes, the worse the eventuality may be because hasty makes waste. We can just take Thomas Alva Edison as an example to support the claim. Before his great invention coming into the world, he made hundreds of thousands of trials even though each of these trials except the last one turned out to be failures. It is his perseverance and recognition on the process that eventually change our world. In short, the petty but important details determine the difference between success and failure. On the other hand, in my point of view, it is inadvisable that we only focus on the specific task at hand without reference to how that task is related to the end product. We should set a specific aim to achieve before we begin to do something. Otherwise, we will lose the dynamic to do everything. The most important thing is to serve the aim with the task at hand. We should make a whole plan instead of pieces of tasks separately. If we ignore the core or the certain object, the sole job will be inevitably aimless and doom to be inefficient. Also, we can find the evidence to enforce this assertion in the Edison’s example. If his experiments didn’t serve the final result of his invention, he would not achieve such significant success in the end due to the aimless trials.
In sum, every coin has its two sides. Taking the above considerations into account, I can safely arrive at the conclusion that in order to achieve an accomplishment, we should not overemphasize the result without referring to the specific task at hand, and also, we shouldn’t blindly do anything ignoring the primary object. |
