Writing I: The reading lists 3 benefits of the lie detector. 1) lie detector eliminates cheating. Some bodily reactions may be not accurate, but brain-scanning is precise. 2) Lie-detecting results could be used in court as evidence. 3) The technology of lie detector develops the related technology, which could be used in diplomacy or business negociations occasions to test insincerity. Listening Part completely refutes the reading passage. The speaker thinks it is a terrible idea to use lie detector. 1) There are possibilities that liars may manage to control their brain activities just as they control their bodily reactions like sweating by learning how the lie detector works. As a result the lie-detecting result may not be acurrate.. 2) The testees may be mistakenly judged to be lying simply because they are uncertain in response to the lie detector. Thus the lie detector is not worth being trusted in court. 3) On some ocassions of diplomacy or business negociation, people may pretend to be polite. (I am not sure of this argument.) Writing II
State your opinions: Do you think people can learn more from watching TV than reading books? Speaking: 1. What kind of movies do you enjoy most? Use examples and details to explain why. 2. Do you agree or disagree students should wear uniforms in school. 3. In reading passage, the definition of short-term memory is given. Then, the passage explains 2 reasons of losing this temporay memory: one is decay, the other one is interference, which is to push the old one out of memory(rough idea, forgot its exact discription). The speaker uses 2 examples to illustrate the above two reasons respectively. The first one is to demonstrate the reason of decay. A man who forgot a phone number of his friend and his roomate gave him that number, but 2 hours later when he tries to call his friend again, he couldn't remember it any more. Memory can stay as long as you dail the phone. The second example is the speaker's personal experience. In a bookstore, he made a list of books he wanted to read. But later he ran into a friend of his and the friend recommend him another book list. Finally, he couldn't remember his own book list. Instead, What he could remember is his friend's book list. The reason is his friend's recommended books took the place of his own list he previously made. That is newer memory pushed out the less newer memory. Listening: 1. A conversation between a student and his professor. Because of printer problems, the student was late for meeting with his professor discussing about how to make outlines of his paper. The professor prefer a paper which is presented in an unsual way, but she insisted that the student shoud be step by step. The student says it may worth of the risk. 2. (Not quite sure about some detail, just a rough idea for your reference) children's important ability of joint connection in communication with his/her care giver. Baby will look the same thing which the care giver is watching. Two examples. First, baby looking at the walking cat. Second, the speaker's niece looks at a toy he wants and point at it to the care giver. 3. About the mass media advertisement. There are two ways of persuading their customers to buy their products. Which way is better depends on what kind of product they are selling. The first way is the indirect route of persuasion. The speaker takes a car which could use gasoline as well as electricity as an example. The car has special features and better than any other similar cars, so it is better to use direct route. That is to use concrete facts to attract customers. The second way is indirect route. The speaker uses a common car as an example. It is preferable to use indirect route in this case. 提到 smile and drive the car to the beach, That is to create mental connection between cars and happiness.
4. Talks about the how the organic substance originates from the earth. Mentioned Miller's experiment: he used 4 gases which are inorganic and were supposed to be the primitive substance on earth. In this experiment the electricity is a necessity to create organic compounds. (question: what's the weakness of this experiment? What is the significance of this experiment? ) 5. About algae(海藻) problem in the water body due to overnutritions. Algae bloom blocks the sunlight from going to the deep water, which cause death of some plants(grasses) in the deeper water. Algae decomposing process consumes a large amount of O2 wich is vital for aquatic livings. Causing factors of prosperous growth of algae: fertilizers brought with the rain water, water waste from factories and people's everyday life, etc. solutions- a difficult problem to be resolved because it involves too many resources, but to increase the pubic's awareness are most important. Reading:(three sections for me, I messed up with the first one which is really tough I think. I forgot what it is about。)The following order in based on what I can remember instead of the actual order in the test)
2. engulfed (I chose swallowed) 3. annihilated (I chose destroyed) Every object even light near the black hole are xx and annihilated. (有考题关于季风满足什么条件才会造成降雨) 4) how to use the energy of the sea。第一段,谈到空气中的温差造成了air circulation, 产生了current which is partially responsible for the waves in the ocean.
