57 some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you prefer?
People spend much of their spare time on movies, but different people have different tastes. Some prefer movies that can amuse them, while others prefer serious ones. Although it is hard to say which choice is better, in my opinion, however, I would rather choose serious movies due to the following reasons.
For one thing, serious movies let us think the nature of human beings. Love, friendship, humanity, greed or even evil are all themes of serious movies. It was these movies that make us understand how brave some people could be in urgent times and where the strength comes from. It was also these movies that let us know greed exists beneath our minds and how to prevent it from eroding our conscience. Hence, watching serious movies help us set up our values.
For another, serious movies often present us many social problems worth noticing and discussing. Why a child growing up in a split family may not easily fit into the society? Why drugs are abused among youth, even teenagers? Why some economic disparities appear among people during China’s reform and openness these years and how this disparity affect people’s life, etc. Serious movies sometimes make us stop for a while and think over social problems around us.
In addition, serious movies also teach us a lot of valuable lessons. Through the different fates of characters in the film, we are attracted to think why someone fails and what could be learned from his failure. In case in reality, we encounter same circumstances, we could avoid making the same mistakes as did the character in the movie.
Admittedly, comedies and other kinds of entertainment movies really amuse us and bring happiness to our lives, however they often leave nothing when we recall these movies and nothing could be learned from them except for some jokes.
In conclusion, according to the reasons mentioned above, I prefer serious movies because they let us think the nature of human beings, present us many social problems worth noticing and discussing and finally, teach us a lot of valuable lessons. |
