Topic: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Reading fiction (such as novels and short stories) is more enjoyable than watching movies. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position.
Which one is more enjoyable, reading fiction or watching movies? Some people prefer to read novels, while others believe that watching movies can bring them more happiness. In my point of view, both of them have distinct merits, and it is really hard to say which one is better.
First, movies could provide lively pictures and vivid sounds. Thanks to the movies, now people can enjoy lively scenes. It is true that books can also depict spots by words. However, any words, no matter how beautiful they are, appear to be pale in comparison with the vivid pictures that movie provides to its viewers.
However, novels are also essential to one’s colorful life for two reasons. First, reading novel is an active activity, while watching TV is just a passive reception. When reading books, people could imagine what leading figures of the novel look like. Are they tall or short? Are they handsome or ugly? Whereas televisions leave very limited space for us to imagine, since the scene has been presented in front of us.
What’s more, reading books is more convenient than watching movies. Since books are easy to carry, people can read whenever and wherever they like. People can read books on bus, in the classroom, and even in the toilet. Therefore, people can control the pace at which they read a novel, and they don not need to follow timetables of theaters.
For the above mentioned, we can see that both watching movies and reading fictions are equally enjoyable. Movies provide the vivid pictures for us, at the same time, fictions offer us a large space to imagine and a lot of convenience. Neither of them could be absent in order to lead a wonderful life.
