[学校信息] JHU Summer Intensive Program 2016

Our program prepares (international) students* for personal, professional, and academic success in the U.S. and at Carey. The Summer Intensive program is an acculturation program, not an English Language program. Through in- and out-of-classroom experiences, students will learn about their new academic environment and city. The 2016 program flyer is available for download here, in a PDF format.

• Gain knowledge, improve skills, competence, and confidence in spoken and written business communication
• Experience and learn how to be successful in the American classroom
• Acquire valuable career advice
• Build self and community awareness
• Learn strategies that will help to minimize stress and anxiety associated with the experience of studying abroad
  

This concentrated course focuses on helping participants successfully transition into the American classroom and culture.

The program incorporates sessions in Academic Communication, Writing and Research, Business Content, Career Development, and student well-being sessions, as well as non-academic and social activities. Work in the classroom culminates in a student presentation and submission of an academic paper that adheres to APA guidelines. Social activities, which may include city sightseeing, a baseball game, and bowling, allow students to meet new friends and have fun.

After completing the Summer Intensive, international students join their classmates for program-specific orientations.

The cost for the Summer Intensive is $2,900 (covers course fees, books, activities, and some meals).  

Students are strongly encouraged to plan to arrive at least 1 week BEFORE the start of Summer Intensive to allow time to adjust to the time difference and to find or settle into their new living arrangements. Students should expect to be in sessions daily from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. with required sessions on Saturday, August 6th. Please plan accordingly.  All sessions are mandatory.

*Students who have completed a two-year or four-year degree from a U.S. college or university are not required to attend the Summer Intensive program.
*All international students who are interested in participating are welcome to attend.
*Students who hold two or four-year degrees from English speaking countries and/or universities, or are citizens of English speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, may request a waiver. Visit the FAQ page for eligibility requirements to waive the program. All waiver requests should be submitted tocarey.summerintensive@jhu.edu by May 27,2016. Please note: the waiver review process is based on admission application and supplemental documents provided by the student requesting the wavier.  A request for a waiver will be carefully reviewed and students may be required to interview with staff and/or complete assessments. All decisions are final.
