The problem of the function of television is a much-debated one in the modern society in that with the development of technology, television affects every part of people’s lives, including children’s, as one of the most popular medias. Confronting the question that whether watching television is bad for children or not, people hold different ideas. Some people hold the view that watching television is bad for children due to the violent, unhealthy contents of several programs while other people refute this notion because of the knowledge which the programs refer to. Personally, I side with the former and I will reason and provide concrete evidences to support my viewpoint as follows.

The first plain truth, I am presenting here, is that watching television will take up a large quantity of children’s time. So many outstanding programs attract their attention, and on the other side, reduce the opportunity to communicate with others. The more time children spend on television, the more unsociable they are likely to be. Hence, the most striking conclusion is obvious that television constrain not only the space and the time children should have to communicate but also the normal development of children’s character.

In addition, behind my preference lies an equally important fact that watching too much television is harmful to children’s physical welfare. They may be unwilling to play football as before in order to return home as quickly as they can to watch a favorite cartoon film; they may also prefer to stay in front of the television rather than go out for an excursion in such a beautiful Spring.

In my early age, there was an astonishing affair I never forgot that a lovely little girl in my neighborhood committed suicide just after seeing that a supernatural being couldn’t die through hanging himself on TV. This reality makes me believe that watching television is bad for children.
