Essay:

While being asked whether high school should permit students to stduy what they want to study, I always say  no. The reason are simple.The high school is required to teach the students what they should learn. If the students are free to choose courses, how about the course they don't like to learn? In the meantime, how about the course which is not suitable for they to learn? To explain my opinion, I reason as follows.

First of all, the study life of high school is important to all students because there they can get almost all basic knowledge such as math, physics, chemistry, language. These knowledge are essential for advanced courses.  For instance, the principle of physics learned in the high school is basic to go on advanced and complex physics. If the students are premitted not to learn physics course, how comes they to finish their college courses?

secondly, the young students of high school  probably cannot choose the right course what is benefit to them.  Take me as an example, when I was young, I did not like math and took  little time on it. When I got to the university, I found math was so important to me and I took much time to study those knowledge which should be grasped in the high school.  If I had learned the knowledge better then, I would not struggle to go over math and could use the time to do other things I was interested in.

Such concern about the required knowlege is helpful to the future of students,but high school can also provide some optional courses for the students' interests, such as music, painting and art. Thus students can not only learn what they should learn, but also what they want to learn.

In the end, I disagree that high school would permit students to learn what they what to learn. As the reasons mentioned above, it can totally reach my conclusion.

Whether high school should permit students to study what they want to study is usually a problem confusing both the people who take or give education. While being asked this question, I always answer no, for we have some solid reasons to believe that most of the courses for high school students cannot be alternated.

First of all, high school is still included in elemental education, the most knowledge we learned there, i.e. language, math, physics and chemistry etc., is essential for modern people. Futhermore, these courses build the base for an advanced education. It’s hard to have an idea of such an instance: a person without any basic physical and mathematical knowledge can take the advanced physics course in university or college smoothly.

As we know, people studying in high school are still young. The lack of knowledge, experience or wisdom make hard for them to choose an appropriate programme for their learning schedule if they are permitted to selected what they shuold learn freely. And most student will be apt to spend much time at what they like to learn and share little to the cournterpart they are not so favourite of. This tendency may cause an inclined structure of base knowledge. When they grow up and begin to work, they may have to spend much more time to supliment the vicinity of their knowledge.
