I believe you'll find other "Sternies" here more friendly and generous than me if you eventually become one of us. 欢迎大家给我出出主意 I prefer Michigan to Duke because Michigan offers me some $$, and if there is no money from NYU, I may still head for Michigan. But before making my final decision, I have the following concerns: (1) My career positioning is strategic related (strategic consulting or planning, etc.) while Michigan is known to be strong in operation management. Is Stern more advantageous in this perspective? Stern's intrinsic competitive edges might be a bit too strong to convince outsiders it's actually one of the elite general management schools as well. Approximately 15% ppls per annum here are targeting management consulting when 60% of their peers are "invading" on finance and around the majority of those ppls can end up with a top consulting firm (I am talking about M, B, B, ATK and BAH). For the track records of mainland Chinese students, which may be most relevant reference to you, only one out of five Class 2004 graduates was targeting consulting and he joined Mckinsey; still only one out of six Class 2005 graduates is targeting consulting and by now he has a fulltime offer from ATKearney. Almost forgot to mention... they are both career-switchers -- IT entrepreneur / marketing research. (2) Having said that, I didn't find Stern in the hot names from which consulting firms hire most graduates. Stern's consulting applicants base is a relatively micro portion (10%) of relatively small class (~360). Thus it's unsurprising that Stern seldom shows up on the top of the lists. (But it could be surprising if a so called "complete" consulting hiring list sheet does not have Stern on its sheet.) (3) Heading for NY will be a disadvantage while applying for visa? No so sure as I don't know a statistical proof regarding this issue, which is unlike the previous two topics. Guess it depends. Thanks again! Hope these help.
