why not math? according to the DGS of an Econ department, math is important prep for theoretical Econ PhD programs, while stat and applied econ are more for Econ PhD program with applied aspects.
I guess good Finance PhD programs would also desire strong math background, am I wrong?
thanks for the reply. 1, is the good PhD programs (especially in finance and accounting) require very high math background? (maybe I used the wrong word "theory") 2, if 1 is true, then what will help more than a master in math?
tell you what, only 1% or less people is capable of doing theory. btw, if doing theory, a math master will not help too much.
hehe, it is kind of a risk to take. so he's reading maths books to see if he can pick up his math talent in high school... Question: if columbia stat is very shui, can it get you into a good PhD program? cuz everybody knows how shui they are...
