Agree or disagree, parents should spend time with their children helping them with schoolwork rather than playing games and sports.

Parents always pay much attention to every step and every aspect of children’s growth; because they know many factors can shape the future of children. Ideally, parents should be involved in both processes of helping children with school work and playing games and sports. But if parents don’t have enough time, the best choice is to focus on children’s schoolwork, since both parents and children can get more in this process.

First of all, parents are the best teachers of children, and they will concentrate on not only the knowledge children obtain, but also how to obtain it. Only by knowing how can children finish the schoolwork completely. When I was younger, my father checked my homework almost every day. He seldom satisfied with my answers and kept asking me why. Or he would require me to figure out other ways to solve problems. Although sometimes I felt frustrated about his requirements, I still tried my best to find out solutions. At the end the semester, when I found I could deal with the final exam easily, it was time for me to understand that his requirements and whys were so significant that my thought could not be so active without them.

In addition, parents can also cultivate some good habits of children through the process. Children are always asked to concentrate on their homework. However, the most common situation is that they distract by something else, such as dogs, cats or TV shows etc. With the supervision of parents, they can learn how to manage their concentration and finish their work without interruption. What’s more, it is extremely useful if parents can give children some suggestions on how to make the whole process well-organized and efficient. These habits can be some kind of abilities that influence the whole lives of children and help them gain advantages in the competition.

Admittedly, playing games and sports is an excellent way to improve family relationship. Nevertheless, helping children with school work can also help parents develop good relation with children. The more time parents spend on discussion with children, the better relation they can have. After I entered the university, I still missed the nights I spent with my parents. Whenever I have difficulties in my study and work, the first thing I can call in mind is to ask my parents, though sometimes I know my questions are beyond their abilities. I need the process to express my respect and love to them.

In conclusion, although someone may regard playing with children as a good way, I insist that helping children with their homework is the best option if parents have limited time, if we take all factors we discussed above into consideration. (452)
