It is no doubt that, writing ability is an essential part of communication. Some people argue that, one's literacy is more important than before. In my opinion, however, writing ability is always one of the important ways for people to interchange. I will try to demonstrate my point in the following discussion.
First of all, writing ability is an important prerequisite for people who can have a better job. Nowadays, by writing a fantastic report, people could largely attract their potential customers' attention. So they are probably picking your company up among a number of choices, simply because your good job on the report which impressed them a lot. As a result, you could be appreciated by your boss, and have more chance to be promoted. So we can see that, writing ability could be very beneficial to one's career. What's more, we also write e-mails to communicate a lot today. For example, in my company, we send the meeting agenda and other arrangements to employees by writing e-mails. It is obvious that, the people who write these thing must make sure whether they could convey the information clearly and understandable. So I would say that writing ability is really significant today.
As to the past days, literacy is also of great importance. It is easy to know that, we must communicate with our friends and relatives by writing letters or telegraphs, since there are no telephones or Internet at that time. Take my older sister Daisy as an example, she told me that when she was young, the only way for her to connect her best friend who lived in America was writing letter. It is apparent that, only by writing, could people lived in the past convey their ideas to others who lived far from them. Writing is absolutely an indispensable tool for people to intercourse in the past. So it is not proper to say that, literacy is less important in the past.
In conclusion, writing ability is very important both in today and yesterday.
