As the first teachers in their children'slife, parents play a critical role in the enlightened education, from whichchildren learn not only how to read and write, but also some basic values thatwill be deeply rooted as the foundation of their lives. For instance, one of myfriends, who has already been deemed as a successful businessman today, oncetold me that the most invaluable principle he adheres to comes from his mother, who taught him in his childhood that whatever is worth doing at all is worthdoing well. Parents, however, may not be the bestteacher of their children. As children grow up, they would learn knowledge fromteachers, books and of course, their peers. Knowledge from these sources is socomprehensive and profound that none of any parents could deliver all of it totheir children. For example, as a child enters primary school and begins to livea group life, he or she will learn the communication skills of how tocommunicate with other children, the teamwork spirit of respecting others andgetting things done, neither of which couldn't have be leant should the childstay at home and be educated by the parents. Moreover, parents could even be the badteacher in a child's education path. As times move on, some values andknowledge of parents have already proved to be wrong, of which they are stillnot conscious. In my hometown, most of the adult people are still holding aridiculous belief, that only a boy could be the descendent to succeed thefamily. Such thought is so deeply rooted in their mind that they pass it ontotheir offspring by showing open discrimination towards girls before theirchildren. A boy brought up by these parents would probably have a distortedimpression towards female while he is an adult, which could have a unmeasurablenegative effect on his whole life. |
