Please do not ask your grandfather to write you a recommendation letter. Letters from relatives are very weak recommendation letters. You are very welcome to mention it in your PS and say your grandfather has told you a lot about Purdue's culture, and make his influence be one of the main reasons you want to apply for Purdue. Your fantastic GPA and excellent internship experience should make you a strong candidate. Even though Purdue is not one of the top tier schools, it is certainly a good school and I think you should have a great chance to get accepted. However, I believe you should also apply for other top schools as well, do not put all your eggs in one basket. I will not be surprised if you get accepted from any of the top tier schools. Beside your UCB professor, I think you should also have 1-2 letters from your supervisors at work. Do not worry too much about your GMAT, just try your best and retake it if you are not satisified with it. After all, GMAT is just a score. I don't think your GMAT score will be too much of a problem based on your overall excellent backgroud. |
