It seems like your friend is very accomplished! And that can be a great thing, but it can also be an issue when applying tto a top 50 MBA program. The key is for your friend to be able to identify WHY he needs the MBA. Fact is if he's running an enterprise and generating $4 Million a year through it the Adcom will wonder whether he really needs an MBA. After all it seems he has the knack for success all on his own. Make sense?
So we need to be able to logically think through his goals. What skills is he lacking that an MBA from Canada or the U.S. can solve for him? Where does he see himself after the MBA and why? What are his long term objectives? We need to ensure that his career arc is logical too based on his entepreneurial past. If he chooses a career that is a tangent from what he is doing now then it could also become a problem.
Otherwise from a pure academic standpoint he seems to fit well with a top 50. And if he can really demonstrate his leadership capability and need for an MBA, we could even push for a Top 30.
Hope that helped!
