This is a really personal decision. Here are my two cents:
- Age: You are on the older end of the MBA class. That in itself is not a problem, but my guess is that it'll limit your recruiting when you graduate. Most firms rather hire younger people fresh out of MBA. And at 36, you wouldn't want to start over as an associate at a bank or other similar level positions anyways. At your age, I'd say that it's almost better to work for a few more years then get a EMBA degree. They tend to less time intensive (most full time ones are only 1-yr), and probably suit your career path a bit better.
- International experience: How much do you value spending two yrs in the U.S., regardless of investment return? I know some people value that above all else, but many do not.
- Personal: I think nothing is more important than family. A MBA, a nice job, a large house and etc are all nice things to have, but none of that is worth giving up your family for. Your parents may not say it, or they may even encourage you to go, but I am sure it means a lot to them to have you there with them at such a difficult time. Again, a very personal decision. You have to think about this one for yourself, because you'll be the one that's living with the outcome one way or another. |
