I do have some memberships and activities such as swim. But Ｉnever participated a lot and never got any awards from it. Will this affect a lot on my application to the Top 10 school? Also, do you think swim /reading, also activities?

If you swim ALONE, that doesn't count as Ext activity. But, if you join a swimming team and compete for medal, that should count. If you lead a swimming team to success, that's even better.

Yes, I swim alone. Then should my membership in some communities such as Auto Club count even though I don't hold any position? Are there other applicants all having enough time to be involved in activities for metal??

Some common Extra activities that most applicants include are: Volunteer work (United Way, YMCA, other not-for-profit orgnizations); sports team (either a leader or actively participate); church service; other groups (like youth group very common in China).

In terms of extra activities, what Adcoms are looking for is:

1) your commitment. You have been involved in the activity for some time. Not just one-time behavior

2) the degree you involve. You assume a certain responsibility in the activity.

Except the examples chipmunk has mentioned, charity events are also popular.

How many hours involvement per week is reasonable?

hard to say. it depends on how busy you are in your job. sometimes a few hours per week is enough if you involve in the activity for three years.
