Yes, and not all firms want you to sign a contract.  Some firms don't require you to return to the company after your education.

I've heard that a lot of investment banks and consulting firms, for example, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, McKinsey, and BCG, sponsor their employees and give out scholarships.  For the more traditional industries, for example, GM, GE, IBM, Target, etc. it would probably depend on the individual.  Again, this is all hearsay and I don't know how reliable the information is.
