1.
Compared to nonprofit hospitals of the same size, investor-owned hospitals require less public investment in the form of tax breaks, use fewer employees, and have higher occupancy levels. It can therefore be concluded that investor-owned hospitals are a better way of delivering medical care than are nonprofit hospitals.
Which one of the following, if true, most undermines the conclusion drawn above?

--FEIFEI98

key: Patients in nonprofit hospitals recover more quickly than do patients with comparable illnesses in investor-owned hospitals.

2. A society’sinfant mortality rate is an accepted indicator of that society’s general healthstatus. Even though in some localities in the United States
the rate is higherthan in many developing countries. In the United States , overall the rate hasbeen steadily declining. This declines does not necessarily indicate, however, that babies in the United  States are now, on the average, healthier atbirth than they were in the past.Which one of thefollowing reasons, if true, most strongly supports the claim made above aboutthe implications of the decline?
--FEIFEI125

key: The United States has been developingand his achieved extremely sophisticated technology for saving premature andlow-birth-weight babies, most of whom require extended hospital stays.
3.
Investigators concluded that human failure was not responsible for the fatal airplane crash last August, and since that time new and more stringent rules for identifying and reporting mechanical problems have been in effect. That accounts for the fact that reports of airplane mechanical problems have increased in frequency by 50 percent since last August.
Which one of the following is an assumption underlying the argument in the passage?

--FEIFEI61

key: Mechanical problems in airplanes have not increased by 50 percent since last August.

4.
A survey of alumni of the class of 1960 at Aurora University yielded puzzling results. When asked to indicate their academic rank, half of the respondents reported that they were in the top quarter of the graduating class in 1960.
Which one of the following most helps account for apparent contradiction above?

--FEIFEI105

key: A disproportionately large number of high ranking alumni responded to the survey.

5.
No.45 The following is part of a business plan created by the management of the Megamart grocery store:
“Our total sales have increased this year by 20 percent since we added a pharmacy section to our grocery store. Clearly, the customer’s main concern is the convenience afforded by one-stop shopping. The surest way to increase our profits over the next couple of years, therefore, is to add a clothing department along with an automotive supplies and repair shop. We should also plan to continue adding new departments and services, such as a restaurant and a garden shop, in subsequent years. Being the only store in the area that offers such a range of services will give us a competitive advantage over other local stores.”

AA
P:The store's profit is increased because it added a pharmacy store.
C: The company needs to add more stores for one-stop shopping convenience for customers, so that the profit will keep increasing.
1. Adding a restaurant or other convenient stores may not be the best ideas, since the types of stores depend on the need of the customers in the neighborhood.
2. The management and organizations are different among the added stores, and this may require more managers and employees with special and higher skills, so this extra cost will be counted.
3. The company needs to concern about the age groups of customers by collecting representative samples and info. before adding stores.

话说我许久没系统看逻辑了...好痛苦T T

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AA:
1. The pharmacy section may not be the reason why the department store have a increase in profits  ==>The cost in other sections may decline greatly, thus bringing an increase in profits.
2. Even though the source was the pharmacy store, we still cannot simply adding restaurant or cloth section ==>Since they may not apply the same rule, people may like to go around and pick up cloths in different stores.
3. The author wrongly assumes that other company will not make a change. Also, the author does not carefully make a profits- cost analysis.
