感觉大家讨论的和我开始的问题已经想去甚远了,感觉rather than道不是大问题,前面应该是省略了to,

但是,请大家注意一个歧义,是从to allow...这个不定式引出:

1.JB否认了一个动议,这个动议是....(to的不定式做宾补表示动议的内容)

2.JB否认了一个动议,其目的是...(to的不定式做目的状语,表示denied这个动作的目的)

大家认为如何?

我认为不是状语。我认为可以看成不定式to allow...作motion的定语或宾补，因为Longman把motion to do sth/motion that单列，是固定用法。

楼上许多DDMM们不理解allow MJ to go home rather than be confined to a hotel，觉得可能是她们把allow翻成“允许”导致的。其实，是不是可以把allow应翻成“使...变成可能”，=make it possible for MJ to go home rather than be confined to a hotel，（i.e.，two options /possibilities , the motion goes for the first one），就好理解一些了。（ 意思是：the motion makes it possible for MJ to go home + makes it possible for MJ not to be confined to a hotel.）

至少我们知道to do 作宾补ETS不认为是歧义
