是的。这个结构的意思是，不能用NOUN + VERBing来表示一个发生的动作，因为NOUN + VERBing实际上就相当于一个名词。
VERBing是作为Noun-modifer修饰Noun，实际上这个结构就相当于 (preposition)+ Noun的结构。

原题：
Australian embryologists have found evidence to suggest ...
found evidence to suggest 表示这些证据可以用来表明...，但是用found evidence suggesting 只能说明找到了一些证据，后面都是修饰这个证据。

例1： i've never heard of bees stinging dogs.
heard of bees + [stinging dogs.] 听到蜜蜂，不对，应该是一个完整的动作。

例2：...results in the act of stinging causing...
result in the act of stinging，导致一个蜇的动作，不对。应该是导致蜇会产生什么后果。
***注意 逗号+resulting in 结构都错，原因同理。

例3：i have a picture of my cousin playing hockey.
a picture of my cousin，对，一个关于我表弟的画，表弟在玩hockey.

重点是elephant had descended错了，用过去完成时的话除非你承认elephant代表过去时即灭绝了，现在elephant还存在所以不能用过去完成时
