Congratulations on getting that interview! That's a BIG and important step in the process, and you should be proud of making it that far! Now, the interview is very important. Especially for Chinese applicants. Beyond wanting to get to know you as a person, they also want to make sure that your English is strong enough to be able to handle the course load. So, first off, you'll definitely want to start practicing that English. You should be speaking with someone in English every day. It doesn't necessarily have to be about your applications (although that will help!); you just want to practice your spoken English as much as you can. That will not only help you in the Interview, but also once you get to school, which is the most important part!
Now, in terms of the interview itself, the interviewer is going to want to know who you are and what you'll bring to their program. So you're going to want to be very familiar with your goals, what the school has to offer, and what you wrote about in your application. But don't memorize what you want to say. There is nothing worse than sounding TOO prepared, like a robot in your interview! The best interviews are like casual conversations. Yes, you want to be prepared and know what you want to say, but you want it to flow naturally. So just get VERY comfortable with your best stories (your biggest accomplishments, your best leadership stories) so you can speak on them very comfortably and casually, no matter what you are asked. And make sure you have questions to ask the interviewer as well! People LOVE to talk about themselves. Some of the best interviews I did when I was applying to Harvard were when I was sick and could barely speak! So get the interviewer talking about themselves, their time at school, how the program helped them in THEIR careers, etc. Again, you want this to be a nice, casual conversation, not a one-way interrogation all about you. Show your personality and connect to the interviewer while putting your best foot forward, and you'll be successful. GOOD LUCK! |
