OG say : In D and E, the preposition "for" is less idiomatic than “of” in expressing necessity.

But Longman say :

necessity for

He emphasized the necessity for good planning and management.

the necessity of (doing) something

This illustrates the necessity of keeping accurate records of your work.

Many teachers are now questioning the necessity of formal exams.

Why "necessity for" is less idiomatic ?

1.       no less than 在GMAT中一定要当比较来用，要有明确的比较对象。

a)        sth + be + no less + adj. + than sth. / no less adj. than sth. be sth. (倒装)

No less remarkable than the development of the compact disc has been the use of the new technology to revitalize, in better sound than was ever before possible, some of the classic recorded performances of the pre-LP era.（比较级，修饰remarkable,放在句首倒装）

b)        no less X1 than X2 be … (特殊的比较方式)

No less an authority than Walter Cronkite has reported that half of all Americans never read a book. 不仅仅是Walter Cronkite一家机构。。。（强调数字，多余一家机构，no less than是一个短语）

c)        no less than + sth. + be necessary/required/needed… redundant的结构，因为直接去掉no less than也不会影响原意。(OG242)

d)        但如果 no less than + sth. + 其他动词，往往不是redundant.

如：No less than 45 people attended yesterday’s meeting. 不可改成 45 people attended ….（同样也是强调数字，no less than做短语）
