It is more important for the government tospend money on new buildings than to preserve historic or traditional buildingsand homes.

Recent decades have witnessed remarkablechange in the appearance of a city, especially its architectural style. Withthe development of modernization, many historic buildings are graduallyreplaced by breathtaking skyscrapers and gorgeous landmarks. Now, facing the decisionof allocating its budget, government ought to decide whether to spend money onnew buildings or to preserve the traditional buildings. Some people insist thatgovernment is supposed to construct more new buildings to meet the increasingdemand for houses as the population exploded these years. However, other peoplebelieve that it is the government’s responsibility to preserve our historicheritage. From my point of view, I am inclined to the latter. Reasons andexamples are as follow.

In the first place, it is widely known thatevery historic building has its unique value and culture, on no account couldanyone afford to damage it. Especially in China, an old mysterious nation withsplendid culture of more than five thousands years, there are numerous treasuresleft by our ancestors. A good case in point is the Forbidden City. Theworld-renowned Palace Museum of China, or Forbidden City, is a historical relicin China. As the imperial home of 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties,it has served Chinese Emperors for more than 500 years. UNESCO named it WorldCultural Heritage Site. There is no doubt that the Forbidden City could be avery good place for people to learn and understand China’s past. Thus, so preciousare those historic buildings that deserve money to preserve.

Furthermore, historic and traditional buildingis a symbol of a city and a valuable tourist site. In the capital of China,Beijing, there are many places of interests attracting hundreds of thousands ofvisitors from home and abroad each day. Among them are the Great Wall, theForbidden City, the Summer Palace, and etc. It is hard to imagine how the citywould be like if someday all those famous architectures are destroyed andreplaced by the modern skyscrapers. Last summer I had a trip to Beijing and Ireally marveled at those magnificent palaces and admired the ancestor’s wisdomand artistic talent. Besides, alongside the development of tourism industry spurredby these historic miracles, the economy will be benefited as well.

Admittedly, some people might contend thatsome of ancient buildings are barriers of overall city construction planning.Although modern buildings could serve many practical uses, such as houses andoffices, by no means can people ignore the value of the historic buildings. Itis never a wise manner to give up protecting our historic relics in order tomeet out needs of accommodation. So I cannot emphasize the importance of theancient buildings too much.

From what I have discussed above, theurgent needs to preserve ancient architectures in areas of the world where theyare poorly managed cannot be neglected. Not only do the historic buildingsprovide priceless value and historical meaning, but they also encourage moreand more people all over the globe to have a visit, thus driving the economicgrowth. Therefore, government should put it on top of priority when allocatingmoney on building construction.
