这道题当时选了C，其实一开始很敏感has the rank of 这样的用法很awkward.但是看到后面only的时候我就觉得这道题的考点很明显，无非是看only修饰的对象有没有错。记得看PREP笔记的时候有一道题总结出这样一句话：only要紧跟修饰词，并且向后修饰。而且OG这道题的解析也说：Only is placed with precision next to the group of words it actually limits.，我当时觉得only就是修饰surpassed的，为什么又要把它认作是修饰by heart diseases and cancer?如何看 only 的修饰？谢谢！

总结和解释都没有问题，only要是用于修饰surpassed，就会被理解成，仅仅超越被h&c；但原句要表达的是，仅仅被h&c超越。因此，only修饰的是“被什么”，而不是surpassed

我的理解是
surpassed only by = 仅仅被H&C超越
only surpassed by = 被H&C仅仅是超越，而不是战胜、推翻等等除”超越“以外的动词

我也很疑惑就翻了下曼哈顿里面only 的用法，里面说place only before the verb的用法在Gmat中一般被看成错误的，since we rarely mean that the verb is the only action ever performed by the subject
