OG13-9 的语法非常难,求帮助(less than的复杂用法)

OG13-9. In 1979 lack of rain reduced India's rice production to about 41 million tons, nearly 25 percent less than those of the 1978 harvest.

(A) less than those of the 1978 harvest

(B) less than the 1978 harvest(答案)

(C)  less than 1978

(D)  fewer than 1978

(E)  fewer than that of India's 1978 harvest

我的疑问: rice production是不可数学名词，但后面 to about 41 million tons是可数的啊？

其他 prep上2条涉及less than的疑问

When drive-ins were at the height of their popularity in the late 1950s, some 4,000 existed in the United States, but today there are less than one-quarter that many.
A. there are less than  one-quarter that many
B. there are fewer than one-quarter as many
C. there are fewer than one-quarter of that amount
D. the number  is less than one-quarter the amount      
E. it is less than one-quarter of that amount

这条题目的解答: Drive-ins are countable, so they take countable modifiers. Eliminate A, D, and E because they use "less" instead of "fewer."
Between B and C, "amount" is used for uncountable nouns (compare "amount of sand" to "number of books"), so that eliminates C.
I'd go with B. It correctly uses "fewer" and "many" to refer to a countable noun, "drive-ins." 这里明确说了, less than 不能修饰复数.

descendants, popularly known as killer bees, had migrated as far north as southern Texas.
但在这条里面,却出现了less than修饰复数.

所以,我非常困惑less than到底什么时候修饰复数什么时候修饰单数?

less than是修饰不可数名词的，你第一个问题里面比较的是rice production，你不能数1个production，2个production吧，所以rice production不可数用less than修饰。
第二个问题修饰是drive-ins，人家谓语都用were了，摆明是复数的，也就是可数名词，fewer than是修饰可数名词的。
“countable ”是可数的意思，不是指单复数。

打错了吧。。你说less than 修饰不可数，production 又是不可数，当然可以修饰了。了

我也说不出所以然，但是我个人觉得这的million tons是单位

less than 当然不能修饰复数 这里的production和之后的41 million tons不冲突，因为导致tons 是复数形式的是41导致的，tons是单位

这道题比较的是两年的production：.production是不可数，因而用less

看选项：
A.看到代词those就要去找它的先行词，因为是复数，只能是指代之前的tons。这样看就不对了，原因：（1）因为如果those 在这里成立，指代tons那么就应该用fewer than 而不是less than；（2)我们比较的是production，不是比较具体产量这个数字。也就是说，如果我们说：1979年的旱情使得印度的大米产量减少到了41million 吨，比起1978年的产量的吨数，少了25%。显然没有：1979年的旱情使得印度的大米产量减少到了41million 吨，比起1978年的产量，少了25%来的简介有效，因为比较产量就可以了，这也就是OG解释中说的：both harvest are measured in tons， and it is clearer and simpler to compare with the harvest itself。也就是说，比较tons并不错，但是多此一举（如果选项改成：fewer than those of the 1978 harvest的话，就grammatically correct但是wordy）

B.按找对A的解释，可以得出是最好的
C.将产量和1978这个年份比较了，错误
D.也是和C一样的错误
E.其实和A是一样的原理。that在这里指代的是india's rice production，既然指代production，就不能用fewer than了，其次，将选项中的that用india's rice production替换，会发现india's rice production和india's 1978 harest重复了

亲 语法里的比较我觉得掌握的真心不好 做到题目了就小紧张 看你比较这么通的样子~拯救一下我的比较吧===我想说首先比较对象要怎么确定 我感觉我总是凭逻辑判断的
