Pheonix, the largest for-profit school had no career service before. But this situation is changed by the introduction of a new series.
This new session aim to help students figure out what jobs are good for them, what employees are needed, and what skills do they need.
With the currently high unemployment rate in USA, many people go to a degree because of work. The problem is: does an online degree help on getting a job?

Students hope the answer is yes because a growing number of students have taken online degrees. Some take online programs in Universities such as Pheonix. The main concerns are about the quality and usefulness of online degree because many online programs are for profit – they want nothing but money.
The perception of online education has changed. SHRM’s study shows employers’ perception has improves. More than half employers think op and tp are equall. 79% employers hired somebody with online degree. But 66% prefer the traditional degree. Hk explain: It boil down to the familiarity –it’s about the reputation and name recognition.

The newest player MOOC have no such concerns because it is based on the prestigious universities. Some company even show their interest on well-performed students in MOOC courses.
But MOOC face another problem: they renter certificate instead of degrees. This is merely enough. R G: the degree is still the key point. It is not clear enough the MOOC can compete with degree.

MOOC could learn from others for a different approach: figure out the needed skills and put students in the right pool. WGU, a non-profitable school, had no reputation. After the let employers know about the curriculum, more students have been hired. S:the input in curriculum is helpful to get a job.
UPS goes further. UPS combine a traditional school and online program to cultivate talents for the company. EG: a packing position person will supply-chain management in MCC and get operative practive in TESC. Vice president of UPS: we know that different generations have different preferences.

The Pheonix is catching on by adding certificate on retail and hotel management. It also coordinate with MSM on hotel management and with AMP on emergency care. And they have inform partner with Walmart, which is not involved in the curriculum. This is a win-win case.
So the online degree sometimes can help on find a job. But some HR on Fortune 500 have concerns about the assessment and quality of online degrees. M hopes that MOOC can add credibility to online education.
