大家好，小弟研发工程师一枚，内心很向往咨询的生活，可是工作背景多是研发产品，的确不太容易把自身经历和咨询联系起来。
现在写career goal的时候，是应该实话实说毕业后去咨询呢，还是写和自身背景比较体贴近的product management，一旦进去了再寻出路呢。谢谢大家指点

相信你能写出passion

写咨询要有很强的证据
不然差太远就直接钉了
学术上可以修些商管课,尤其是财务跟会计
工作上想办法把职务内容搞得像咨询一样
就像在产品部门做咨询一样
不然就要写产品经理了
AO一看至少容易就业,薪资也不低
还有战
进去了要转再凭本事
或至少​​把咨询改成中长程目标
别让学校有理由直接钉
当然写产品经理也是巨挑战
太多来自各国的工程师要转产品经理了
要看为什么咨询这么吸引你
跟产品经理间有什么交叠
这样才擦得出火花

如果没接触过咨询方面的具体工作，比较稳妥的办法是继续既有的职业道路，但这是给招生办说的。
毕业时候你能找到啥工作，鬼知道。。。。。。一切看自己的努力。

非常感谢! 这种动手写essay时候才发现自己想干啥是这么纠结的问题

Agree.  If you don't have strong evidences + strong background schools most likely will think that you don't know what you want, and evaluate your application accordingly.  It is too common to see technical folks want to transition to Consulting.  The job is actually significantly different from a typical technical role.  

Only a desire is not enough.  Everyone has desires.  Should ask yourself the following questions:
1. How many consultants have I talked to?  Do I really know what the day to day responsibilities are ?
2. What industry do I want to focus on when I start at a consulting firm?  What makes me special?
3. Do I have client serving experience that's translatable?

多谢，那大神知道对于招生大妈来说，研发工程师最稳妥最合理的career goal是什么吗，产品管理，general management？

Probably.  Really depends on the details of your background though.  I would encourage you to speak to more people in the field before you nail down what you want to do.  Feel that you are trying to get into a school without truly understanding what you want to do in the future.  Even if you get in, you can easily get lost.

只是觉得在美国找工作，不是想找到啥样的工作就能找到啥样的工作。所以我就不明白为什么要写career goal，大家的计划都是在变的嘛

是的。完全同意。

学校也慢慢发现很多essay都是dog fart, 所以都开始采取措施了。从今年开始，很多S16学校都减少essay的数量，和长度限制。 很多学校改革只要一封推荐信。 这就说明以后报MBA“硬件”就更重要了，会慢慢变得和法学院录取一样。

其实最保险的报考方式是在你现在的职位上做的更好 - Hard results really matter。 我也是慢慢的感觉到硬件确实重要，因为在这个级别人人都其实会写出一些不错的文章，但是如果没有真实实力，在职场上是站不稳的。
