先明确是 the economy now 和 the economy ten years ago 这两个名词的比较
其实这句话也就是说
the economy is far more diversified that it was ten years ago.
由于动词时态不一样，所以was 也必须补出

我的理解是
这句话本身前面还有个主语发起动作make
XXX make the economy more diversified than..
因为对比的不是XXX make 这个动作
而是economy的前世和今生
所以后面的部分只能用 it (the economy) was (diversified) 来修饰 the economy

making修饰them,所以是对的。如果是并列谓语，GMAT的语法一般是完全对称的，也就是说应该是and will make
