The dogs are so poor, because they saved so many people's lives but still were left behind. R remembered Major forever and felt sad for its life.

End: Major died. Many of the war dog had the same destiny. After the Vietam was ended, they all were left there.

For R, Major was not only a dog but also his imporant part of life.
