补充发问: how to choose between cfa & frm?
how many hours to prepare for lv1? 2 ...
FRM is something one should know (mostly) after study in a quantitative MSF / MFE, so take this after most of your coursework.
CFA is something that, well not difficult, but really many many material that one cannot handle it just with short-term memory. For Level 1, if you have a good background in accounting, finance, economics, statistics, the corresponding part will be easy. (Seldom are good in all anyway), and hence are reduce time a bit.
In average around 250 hours in really needed.........reading the notes at least twice, and do sample paper set at least onces....
Indeed it's not common but possible to have CFA 1 taken during bachelor studying..........
Indeed if you are in a MSF, you should take level 1 during 1st year and level 2 right around graduation.
P.S. Take both if have time (not your case anyway...)
If I were you, will focus on probabability, theory of interest and derivatives in the summer, study tons of stochastic process
finish P, FM, in 2014 summer, MFE in 2014 fall
MLC in 2015 summer, C in 2015 fall
CFA three exam, FRM have two exam, i don't think you have time to consider them with all you coursework in actuarial science and financial engineer.
The most important point here is........all the school exam, SoA examination, CFA, FRM examinaion are held twice a year, in similar period.
You may consider CFA 1 in fall 2014, if you have the time to study it at least twice in summer; but this is not I recommended as I will consider take up the maths will be more important - you can have CFA later, but cannot push up math & GPA later.
As a exam-lover (!?), i wished I had my CFA level 1 in year 3 summer and level 2 in year 4 summer, and FRM 1, 2, all in year 4 fall. [In reality, I finish the 5 * SoA +3 * VEE during the undergraduate study, and FRM during my master, and CFA during working (very tiring indeed, study + exam is way easier than work + exam)] |
