TPO6 The reading passage introduces three reasons why commnal(这个本来是想写什么单词,common嘛?communal?) online encyclopedias were less valuable than traditional printed encyclopedias: errors, fabrication, and confusion. However, the lecture disagrees. The professor says they are only small prices for the advance of this great tools and certainly online encyclopedias exceed(是不是应该用单数?
To start with, contrary to the assertion in the reading passage that online encyclopedias have more errors than traditional encyclopedias, the professor claims that in fact both online and traditional encyclopedias have many errors. There is no denying that people cannot found a perfect encyclopedias from online or offline. However, one great advantage of online encyclopedias is that it is much easier to be corrected while a traditional encyclopedia need decades years to be corrected. Therefore, online encyclopedias obviouly (笔误吧,obviously)beat traditional encyclopedias when it comes to errors.(这段和楼主听到的反驳是一样的,但是我写的怎么就跟失忆一样。。)
Furthermore, the professor argues that we should never worry about the problem of fabrication caused by online encyclopedias. The main reason is that people have adopted two strategies to deal with this problem. The first one is to use a specific formation to prevent anybody to make a change. 。) one is to hire special professional editor (复数形式好一点)to maintain the encyclopedias. That is to say, fabrication is no more a major weakness of online encyclopedias.(果然我听错了。。
What is more, the passage assumes that online encyclopedias have mislead general population(population是人口的意思,我觉得这里用public更合适吧。 。) about the hot topics. But the professor refutes that this assumption is not supported by evidence. In fact one of the greatest merit(one of的短语后面的可数名词应该用复数,所以是merits,话说我自己还没用过merit这个词来表示优点,学了一招~)of online encyclopedias is that it can represent people's interests widely. On contrary, tradition encyclopedias have very limited capability to show people's interests.
