想请教一下 circling在这里修饰的是Jupiter，还是前面的句子？
如果是前面的句子的伴随：astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets
那么逻辑不对
如果是前面的句子的 目的：逻辑也不对
求大神解释？？

我的看法：
1：首先搞清楚句意 是哪个物体circle other stars，在两个物体 planets 和 Jupiter中选 根据句意 应该是 planets circle other stars
2:然后确定circling的作用  V+ing 有三个用法 (1：伴随状语 (2：定语 (3：修饰主系表句子  
3:circling在这里是 定语 修饰 planet  中间的,....,可以理解插入语

貌似只有同位语才能修饰这个前面的词组，
排除了circling做状语的可能性，那只能做定语了，
那它做的是谁的定语？
v-Ing在做定语时应该是紧跟着名词的，
那么就修饰Jupiter了

不是 作定语 可以跳跃指代   根据句意 环绕其他恒星  所以一个 jupiter 怎么能环绕很多恒星  应该是planets 环绕其他 恒星的  所以circling 修饰planets

我只看到过介宾短语作定语，修饰名词时可以跳跃指代，现在分词作定语修饰名词也可以跳跃指代？？

恩 是的 没有见过跳跃指代 但是 对这里的句意实在理解不了  怎么一个jupiter可以绕着很多恒星转（呵呵 这里需要专业知识了 也只能理解成 轨道里面有很多小恒星 jupiter绕着转)   说到底 还是对于 V-ing的修饰名词或句子 这个知识点不扎实  这次记住了
