Today, because of improvements in agricultural technology, the same amount of acreage produces double the apples that it has in 1910.
(A) double the apples that it has
(B) twice as many apples as it did
(C) as much as twice the apples it has
(D) two times as many apples as there were
(E) a doubling of the apples that it did
原题比较简单，但OG关于A选项的解释有一处我觉得很tricky，加上自己的想法和搜到的解释贴上来，盼大神赐教。

OG解释：The sentence compares the number of apples produced today with the number of apples produced in 1910. The phrase double the apples is not very exact but it could be understood to mean twice as many or as many as, ...       [我真心不懂这里是在表达个什么意思。]-------
搜到的解释【来自CD某帖】：
ambiguous：there must be many qualities metrcs of apple（which one is doubled?size? quantity? suger rate? or Vitamin C?）
twice更加强调数量，double没有很明确的双倍的数量的含义。    (√)
【举个例说,如果一个公司说double the profit，it's not exactly twice as many as the profit      我想问如果不是twice数量，还可以twice什么，没看懂大神的解释= =
但是如果一个公司说twice as many as the profit，I can let them show me the data to prove it's EXACTLY twice.】

补充：本题中，这个点并不是split（我也只是提出来而已），还是应该关注它的动词补出，以及E选项的a doubling的错误修饰。
贴上E选项baby姐的理解：
did=produced，代入=... produces a doubling of the apples that it produced in 1910.
"that it produced in 1910" is an essential modifier that "defines" the apples.
那么a doubling of "那些个1910年生产出来的苹果" 不合逻辑，这就是OG解释中说的：
A doubling of the apples is awkward and, when joined with that it did, suggests doubling the apples themselves, not the amount of apples.---不能doubling苹果，只能doubling数量。
回忆一下咱平常见到的"double"的句子:
..., doubling the amount of X
..., doubling the rate of X
于是我们发现，"double"后面往往跟这一类的词：amount, quantity, speed, frequency, rate (of), rates (for), price, ...有规律吧？肯定不能跟"apples""students"这一类的具体的东东。
归纳一下, “
★a doubling of后面，跟【数量(number,amount, quantity…)，价值，一些物理量(如concentration, pressure, force…)---一些抽象的数量，或单位的词】
之所以有人归纳说“GMAT里面 a doubling of 永远错”，是因为GMAT经常会错误地在 “a doubling of” 后面跟具体名词诸如apples, students——这用法就是错的。
正确选项引申出的关于【twice与as many as】重复问题
曼哈顿：if the noun in question is already an explicitly numerical quantity, then you should use neither "much" nor "many". instead, you should just use "twice" or "double" by itself.
EG： twice the increase --> "increase" is an explicitly numerical quantity                                               
        twice as much as the increase... --> incorrect; redundant                                                         
        twice the water... --> incorrect, since water is not a numerical quantity
本题中，正确选项中apple没有数量含义，不存在重复的问题。

以上的解释是帮助豆豆理解，为什么OG说不确切，但是可以理解。这里OG的态度是，不是很合适，但是不作为排除选项原因。

2. 那个CD的解释大致方向正确，但是他举得例子我看不懂

A选项the same amount of acreage produces double the apples that it has in 1910， 这里it has in 1910动词时态是有问题的。在B选项中用did 来指代过去时态的produce。

不过我想问的是，OG的解释里面，为什么double不确切？

所以OG的意思也就是说，double不如twice确切是因为，double可以表示
twice as many apples (number)
or
twice as many as something else(size,...)
所以意思不确切，对吧~

我记得以前看的理解是这样的：
twice 和double 在后面跟的话，通常要加物理名词，不能直接跟表普通的物，比如apple'，desk
比如这个apple 你不能直接加twice 因为你不知道到底twice 这个apple 的啥 ，可以是数量，也可以是大小，或者重量，所以就有歧义了。

这道题里面，之所以说double不如twice精确，因为你不知道它是double了啥，而twice表示数量，显得更精确（可以看我上面的解释）。
对于你的理解，首先，double是可以作动词的，但twice不行，这是两者特别主要的一个区别，所以我觉得twice本来后面也就不能直接跟任何名词，只能是twice as many/much...什么的，你所说的歧义应该本来就是不存在的（因为没这个用法）。然后，double的话，上面贴出的baby姐的解释里也有提到过，所以我认同你说的，不能直接double apples。
说的不对还请指教~

噢噢，好细心的回复啊。我在twice上跟屁屁豆有点不一样。 （不知道是不是我理解错意思了）
屁屁豆说的twice表示数量，只能加twice as many/much as 这个
我看到的prep笔记上，讲的是twice+名词 在manhattan里说的是做一个appositive
虽然这个twice是一个ADV为什么跟一个名词是有点讲不通。但它也有以下的用法
twice+ the rate of / the speed of / as many/much as （不能跟非物理名词）
EX: 1The new airplane flies at twice the speed of sound. >>
2Global water use has been growing at more than twice the rate of population growth in the last century. >>
3 比如上面manhattan说的twice the increase

除了double可以是动词twice不能做动词，twice 与double的区别还是有点晕，是twice  更倾向于表数量吗？
